The Alimentaria was first held in 1976 in order to exhibit to the domestic market the providers companies in the food sector. This fair takes place every two years and has presented over the years numerous discoveries and innovations in everything related to raw materials, ingredients, products, processes, packaging and conservation, and has become an international benchmark in food, drinks and gastronomy.

Alimentaria is a fair made up of 10 sections:

  • Grocery Foods: large food consumption companies.
  • International Pavilions: section that brings together international representation.
  • Lands of Spain: dedicated to the production of the various CC. Spanish AA.
  • Intercarn: meat products.
  • Interlact: dairy products and derivatives.
  • Expoconser: preserves.
  • Coffee, Bakery and Pastry: The world of coffee, bar, bakery, pastry shop and ice cream shop.
  • Restaurama: Food Service.
  • Snacks, Biscuits & Confectionary:sweet industry and impulse channel.
  • Alimentaria Trends: productive subsectors on the rise such as vegan foods (Vegan Foods), those with vegetable protein that imitates animal protein (Plant Based Foods), allergen-free foods (Free From), those produced by Halal (Halal Foods) and functional ones ( Functional Foods).
  • Organic Foods: organic food.
  • Fine Foods: the space dedicated to delicatessens.
  • FOODTECH: The production and preservation chain of food and beverages.

Alimentaria 2024

This year, Alimentaria will present the latest innovations to address challenges in the sector, such as energy savings, sustainability, human resources management and improving the customer experience. Equipment and machinery for the hospitality industry will be exhibited, as well as a variety of accessories, kitchenware and products related to coffee, bakery and pastry. Leading companies such as Aristarco, Bartscher and Miele will be among the exhibitors.

The growing incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the hospitality industry will be highlighted, optimizing tasks such as food preparation and inventory management. The technological disruption covers the digitalization of management, process automation, applications for loyalty and the introduction of augmented reality in menus. These solutions seek to improve the flexibility, autonomy and efficiency of teams, coinciding with consumer demand for personalized and fast experiences.

Sustainability will be evident in energy-saving equipment and eco-friendly products. The event will include rooms dedicated to products and services for catering and food outside the home, as well as a sector focused on coffee, bakery and pastry. Nearly 600 exhibitors, 40% international, will present new products at the Gran Via venue.

New spaces and experiences will be created, such as "Coffee, Bakery & Pastry" to facilitate meetings between professionals, and "The Horeca Hub" , a nerve center with more than 150 initiatives to address challenges in the Horeca channel value chain. A space will also be dedicated to "Restoration in Communities" with activities, presentations and debates on topics such as sustainability, food waste and digitalization.
