International Museum Day (DIM) is celebrated annually on May 18; It has been organized since 1977 by the International Committee of Museums (ICOM) and its objective is to make citizens aware of the important role of museums in the development of society. During DIM, museums organize a large number of activities that take place on May 18, although they can also start before or end after that date. The most attractive events of the DIM are the open days that the museums offer free of charge and the celebration of the Night of the Museums.

The 2023 edition of International Museum Day

The motto of this year's edition is "Museums, sustainability and well-being". Museums are of great importance in the well-being and sustainable development of our communities. As trusted institutions and a vital component of our society, they have the ability to positively influence our community. Museums can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in various ways, such as by promoting climate action, social inclusion, fighting isolation and improving mental health. Museums can create a cascading effect that inspires positive change in our society, and they can do this through educational programs, exhibitions, community outreach activities, and research.
