The CCCB (Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona) is one of the best cultural centers in Barcelona for the quality and quantity of exhibitions and activities they organize. It is also one of the most visited in the city.
As a multidisciplinary cultural center, the CCCB aims to explore the great themes of contemporary society using various formats and languages. In their extensive program they offer great thematic exhibitions, lectures cycles, literary meetings, debates, film cycles and other audiovisual projections, courses, workshops, concerts and festivals.
The building
The CCCB is located in a part of the old building of the Casa de la Caritat de Barcelona, a center created in 1802 to accommodate people without resources and that functioned until 1957. To install the CCCB, which opened in 1994, it was replaced one of the wings of the building with a prismatic body 30 m high. The result, a spectacular glazed facade (see photographs) that becomes, with its game of reflections, a mirror of the landscape and a privileged viewpoint over the city. The CCCB has 15,000 m² of which 4000 m² are dedicated to exhibition halls. It also has an auditorium, a theater, a bookstore, several classrooms and rooms with multipurpose applications.
CCCB-Lab
The CCCB Lab is a department of the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona dedicated to research, transformation and cultural innovation. Its objective is to propose content lines and public presentation formats. They publish online reflection articles, video-conferences and reports made by specialists on topics such as cultural innovation, the relationships between science and culture, virtual environments, expanded education, data journalism or Big Data.
Xcèntric
Xcèntric is a digital archive of the CCCB of experimental and documentary cinema with free public consultation service that has more than a thousand works. It is also a film cycle with films that have not had access, or have had very limited access to the distribution circuits.
