Primavera Sound Barcelona

The Primavera Sound festival was held the first time in Barcelona in 2001 and has established itself as a global reference model for urban festival. The musical selection is based on eclecticism and coherence but also on risk. Music so that spectators of different generations can enjoy the live music experience to the fullest with pop, rock and the most underground tendencies of dance music as protagonists.

This year's concerts will be held at the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona from May 30 to June 1, but there will also be many concerts in different venues in Barcelona (mainly in El Raval), which will expand the musical offer throughout a week.. This parallel program is called Primavera a la Ciutat and is celebrated from May 27 to 29, and June 2.

The new normal

The New Normal, the slogan or the idea on which the 2019 edition of Primavera Sound floats, flows, rises, falls and rotates. From May 30 to June 1, 2019, the Parc del Fòrum de Barcelona will be the protagonist of an exceptional edition. A turning point. The edition in which everything changes. The parity between men and women, the stylistic eclecticism and the drive, almost an obsession, for the risk to connect with the new times and the new public. And it is not new, it was intuited in the latest editions of Primavera Sound, but this year is final. The new normal. There are 226 names of which more than 50% are women, diversity of musical genres (from extreme metal to reggaeton through pop, hip hop, jazz, electronic experimentation, trap and canonical indie rock), and the more than obvious commitment to renewal.

The highlight of the program

Again, a unique program in the world with names that will define the 2018-2019 music season.

  • Solange returns to the festival, consecrated in her last performance as the R & B diva.
  • The psychedelia pop of Tame Impala with new album.
  • Miley Cyrus, a contemporary pop icon. The author of Bangerz needs no introduction.
  • The Colombian J Balvin, maximum exponent of the new reggaeton wave and author of "Vibras", one of the records of the year.
  • Erykah Badu, indisputable modern classical figure of soul.
  • The flag bearer of the American trap Future.
  • The star Janelle Monáe with her politicized pop.
  • Nas, hip hop icon.
  • Rosalía, who continues ascending to the top of planetary experimental pop.
  • The top part of the program is completed by James Blake, representative of the new creator who combines dance and emotion; Interpol, with its new album that recovers its best version; and the Swedish Robyn who arrives with a new record after eight years of silence.

Primavera Bits

In collaboration with the City Council of Sant Adrià de Besòs, Primavera Bits will once again have three stages to offer the most hedonistic and alternative section of Primavera Sound: electronic music. As always, with all styles: from legends like Richie Hawtin CLOSE to new totems of beats like Nina Kraviz, Modeselektor, Krystal Klear, Peggy Gou and Helena Hauff. Also the first concerts of Objekt and Veronica Vasicka, Yves Tumor with band, and a new show by German master Apparat. The Primavera Bits will be completed with Suzanne Ciani (pioneer of electronics), SOPHIE, Mykki Blanco, Neneh Cherry, Maribou State, Jungle and David August, Mura Masa, Yaeji, Danny L Harle and RUCCULLA.

Free Primavera Sound in 2019

Is it possible to attend a free concert at this year's festival? Short answer: Yes. Long answer: the opening day of Wednesday at the Parc del Fòrum will be free. They will perform Big Red Machine, the post-millennial genius Cuco, the dream pop of Hatchie and the locals Melenas and Mow. And again the CCCB will host the free closing concerts on Sunday, starring this year by the Filthy Friends of Peter Buck (REM) and Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney), a Cristina Rosenvinge in top form and Cupido, the urban music revelation group, formed by Pimp Flaco and Solo Astra.
