Sónar began in 1994 and today is an international benchmark among electronic dance music festivals. The festival brings together established artists and new talents from all fields of music and audiovisual production, and as a global event it aims to connect creativity and technology from different disciplines, both from the public and private sectors. Since 2002 Sónar has organized more than 50 festivals in different parts of the world, adapting its philosophy to unique spaces and environments to showcase the most interesting international talent and the country where it takes place. In previous editions, the festival has traveled to Reykjavik and Tokyo, passing through New York and many other cities.
Sónar Barcelona's activities take place in two large venues:
Fira Montjuïc for Sónar by Day
With concerts, showcases and Sónar+D, whose main objective is to discover and promote new talents.
Fira Gran Via in L'Hospitalet for Sónar by Night
With the big shows featuring the biggest names on the international music scene.
About the Sónar 2025 edition
At the Sónar 2025 edition we will be able to enjoy 117 performances: DJ sets that will make you dance non-stop, stadium-filling shows, high-impact performances and the best selectors of the moment. The complete lineup of this year's edition of Sónar is a musical universe without equal. A place where the underground meets the mainstream, where the radical intertwines with the avant-garde, and where the local mixes with the global.
One of the most anticipated names is Arca, the visionary Venezuelan producer and singer whose fusion of avant-garde electronica and deconstructed reggaeton has redefined contemporary music. Also of note is Plastikman, the alias of Richie Hawtin, a pioneer of minimal techno who returns to Sónar with a show that promises to be an immersive experience. In the same line of sound exploration, Four Tet will bring his characteristic organic and textured house, while Helena Hauff, one of the queens of electro and the rawest techno, will offer a relentless set.
The festival is also betting on hybrid shows that combine music and visual art. Max Cooper, renowned for his synesthetic approach to electronica, will present Lattice 3D/AV, a show that promises to take the audience on a unique audiovisual journey. Similarly, the collaboration between Rone and the Ballet National de Marseille, entitled Room With A View, will blur the boundaries between electronic music and contemporary dance. Another must-see duo will be Actress & Suzanne Ciani, whose Concrète Waves proposal blends experimental techno with Ciani's analog electronic music sensibility.
House and techno will continue to have a strong presence with names like Peggy Gou, key figure of contemporary house with a nostalgic and vibrant style, and Honey Dijon, defender of ballroom culture and infallible DJ on any dance floor. Meanwhile, trance and progressive house will be represented by the explosive combination of Armin van Buuren b2b Indira Paganotto, a generational clash that promises boundless energy.
In the line of urban and global sounds, Nathy Peluso will bring to the stage Club Grasa, his new proposal that combines hip-hop, neo-soul and Latin sounds with his unmistakable stage presence. Dengue Dengue Dengue Dengue, Peruvian duo master of digital cumbia and tropical bass, will ensure that the dance floor is impregnated with psychedelic rhythms. In a more experimental register, Raül Refree and Niño de Elche will present cru+es, a project that reinvents flamenco in an electronic key.
