Americana FIlm Festival | North American independent cinema


The Americana Festival of North American independent film will celebrate its eighth edition in two cities and one platform: from March 2 to 7 in Barcelona, ​​from March 12 to 14 in Madrid and from March 2 to 14 at FILMIN. The Americana is an indispensable festival in which you can see films that usually do not reach our screens. The opening, which is attended by invitation, will be on Tuesday March 2 in the Phenomena room with the film "Driveways", directed by Andrew Ahn; It is a film that knows how to play the right keys to thrill us, a delight nominated for two awards at the Independent Spirit Awards.

The screenings will be divided into five sections, Americana TOPS, with some of the most awarded or anticipated films on the US indie scene, Americana NEXT where new directors with future projections will be made visible, Americana DOCS, the documentary section, Americana SHORTS, the short film section, and a new section, Discoveries, with films that have already passed through the festival and that were small discoveries to be claimed. In total there will be 47 feature films and 29 shorts.

In addition to the aforementioned new Discoveries section that can be followed at FILMIN, the main novelty of this edition is that the American Film Fest also begins in Madrid, where 9 of the festival's films will be screened at the Círculo de Bellas Artes.

Retrospective at the Filmoteca

In this 2021 edition, the Festival Americana will dedicate a retrospective at the Filmoteca de Catalunya to Kelly Reichardt, a director who has stood out for subverting genres such as road movies or the western. With a personal and unmistakable style that immerses us in poetic minimalism, her films are built from her favorite themes and settings: perpetual travel, friendship, the state of Oregon, and huge spaces confronted with uncertainty. existential.


In Barcelona, ​​the Americana can be seen at the Girona and Zumzeig Cinemes.

The price of the tickets is € 7, with shareable passes of 6 tickets for € 35. Short sessions will cost € 4.
At FILMIN there will be two types of titles: 23 feature films and more than 20 shorts for subscription, and 13 for Premium. There will be a subscription that includes 3 Premium films and a month's subscription for € 14.95
