It all started on a trip in 1983. It is not known whether by necessity or by a creative impulse, the Swiss Thomas Meyer used pieces of used pants to make a denim jacket. The garment was very successful and was the basis of the fashion brand that Thomas founded in 1984 with his brother Christian. In 1986 they opened the first store in Ibiza, and the company had 40 employees that year. That jacket has become a complete line of fashion, and from the first store and 40 employees, Desigual has grown to have more than 400 stores on four continents, around 2,700 employees and a presence in 107 countries. Desigual headquarters are located in the Barceloneta quarter of Barcelona, in a unique location by the sea.
The name of the brand, the first logo
The name of the Desigual brand came from an idea of the film director Isabel Coixet. The first logo, that of the robots, was the work of graphic designer Pere Torrent, better known as Peret. A motto was missing to close the circle. "It's not the same" was the first. Name, logo and motto helped boost the image of this unique, fresh, colorful, optimistic, imaginative and original fashion brand that decided to dress people and not bodies.
Desigual has LEED certification, a system of standards that was born in the United States on the use of strategies for the sustainability of buildings of all kinds. It takes into account aspects related to energy efficiency, the use of alternative energy, indoor environmental quality, the efficiency of water consumption, the sustainable development of the free spaces of the plot and the selection of materials.
Cirque du Soleil and Desigual
In June 2011, Desigual signed a collaboration with Cirque du Soleil to design the Desigual clothing collection inspired by Cirque du Soleil, consisting of 60 pieces of clothing and accessories.
