+ Information

L'Alternativa - The Barcelona Independent Film Festival defends the creative independence of the author and searches the current scene in search of the most original and committed cinema. L'Alternativa is also known for supporting young emerging creators and for paying tribute to those who have promoted the evolution of cinema.

L'Alternativa is divided into three sections: L'Alternativa Official, which is divided into three competitive subsections (National, International Feature Films and International Short Films); L'Alternativa Parallel, where you can see tributes, premieres, works of little-known cinematography and new creators, and a family program; and L'Alternativa Hall, which takes place in the CCCB Hall and offers a diverse program with screenings, performances and debates. In addition to screenings, L'Alternativa Activities offers masterclasses, workshops and other activities related to the world of cinema. Lastly, L'Alternativa Professionals organizes the Professional Conference and the Mentoring Projects.

The 2020 edition of L'Alternativa

The program of screenings and activities for the 27th edition of L'Alternativa will take place this year in person and online. The headquarters of the festival will once again be the CCCB and FILMIN will be the online platform. This year highlights the parallel section "Cinema about art. A century of experimentation", where decisive moments of the encounter between film-essay and the arts are selected. In this section, films by Agnès Varda, Peter Greenaway, Alain Cavalier, Aleksandr Sokurov and Claudio Pacienzia, among others, will be screened. The cycle accompanies the seminar "Cinema about art", given by Guillermo G. Peydró, and the presentation of his book "Cinema about art. From dramatization of painting to film-essay" (Shangrila, 2019).
