L'Alternativa - The Barcelona Independent Film Festival defends the creative independence of the author and searches the current scene in search of the most original and committed cinema. L'Alternativa is also known for supporting young emerging creators and for paying tribute to those who have promoted the evolution of cinema.

L'Alternativa is divided into three sections: L'Alternativa Official, which is divided into three competitive subsections (National, International Feature Films and International Short Films); L'Alternativa Parallel, where you can see tributes, premieres, works of little-known cinematography and new creators, and a family program; and L'Alternativa Hall, which takes place in the CCCB Hall and offers a diverse program with screenings, performances and debates. In addition to screenings, L'Alternativa Activities offers masterclasses, workshops and other activities related to the world of cinema. Lastly, L'Alternativa Professionals organizes the Professional Conference and the Mentoring Projects.

The 2022 edition of L'Alternativa

The CCCB will once again be the headquarters of l'Alternativa, and will share the program with the usual venues: Zumzeig and Maldà cinemas, Filmoteca de Catalunya and MACBA. In Filmin some of the films can be seen online for a limited time.

  • Suro, by Mikel Gurrea, will open the 29th edition of l'Alternativa.
  • In the official National and International sections, 14 feature films and 32 short films will compete, and successful films from the Berlinale, Locarno and San Sebastián will be screened.
  • In special sessions, works by Ulrich Seidl, Santiago Fillol, Carla Simón, Lucrecia Martel and Jerzy Skolimowski are presented.
  • Albert Serra and Andrés Duque program the Satellites 2022. And the directors of photography will be the protagonists of the Women filming section.
