The Catalan Book Week began in 1983 with the aim of promoting books in Catalan and becoming a meeting point for readers, publishers and bookstores. Since then, the Week has not stopped growing to become a cultural event of reference in Catalonia.

The Week has the participation of publishers, distributors, bookstores and libraries, and during the days it is celebrated, new literary novelties, publishing collections, magazines, and various activities are organized: talks on various topics, book presentations, poetry, concerts, family activities, book signings and literary itineraries.

The 41st edition of the Week of the Book in Catalan (2023)

This year's Catalan Book Week has managed to bring together publishing houses from all the Catalan-speaking territories. As every year, the event puts the literary sector back on track after the vacations with the presentation of 125 new publications for all ages.

This year, the fair will occupy a space of 7,000 square meters. This space will house 287 exhibitor modules, three stages for audiences of different ages, a family area with a stage and workshops, two reading areas, a bar with a Damm bar, three foodtrucks and a caravan of DO Catalunya wines. In addition, there will be an exhibition called "Ser de letras", the tent of the Association of Periodicals in Catalan (APPEC) and a new space for various entities. As a novelty, La Semana will also present a series of literary podcasts that will be recorded during the event. As for the activities, which include programs on the stages and literary tours, more than 300 events have been planned during the ten days of the festival, in addition to more than one hundred author signings. The program is very varied and adapts to the different interests of the public attending the fair.

In addition to presentations, interviews and talks with Catalan authors such as Carlota Gurt, Sílvia Soler, Gemma Ruiz, Sergi Pàmies and Andreu Martín, La Semana will also include the participation of four prominent international figures: the Swedish writer Karin Smirnoff, the Korean author Han Kang, the British writer Roger Griffin and the Dutch thinker Rob Riemen.

The 27th Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Mercè Ibarz and the 3rd Diffusion Award to the musician Roger Mas.
