disPLACE Chamber Opera

DisPLACE is a chamber opera by composers Raquel García-Tomás and Joan Magrané Figuera with libretto by Helena Tornero and Ensemble PHACE (Vienna). The production is in charge of the festival Musiktheatertage (Vienna) and the Òpera de Butxaca i Nova Creació (Barcelona).

DisPLACE is about houses, people and evictions. We will see two stories that occur in the same space (a flat in Barcelona) or the story of the same space through the lives of two couples: those who live now and those who lived before. Two stories connected by space but separated by time. Gentrification is a problem that affects many neighborhoods around the world, affected by real estate speculation, mortgage laws, the economic crisis and the current tourist model.
