Let's go back in time and go to the 19th century. In 1877, a Mallorcan shoemaker named Antonio Fluxà, bought in London and moved to Mallorca the first shoes sewing machines. With them he revolutionized the process of manufacturing footwear on the island. That shoemaker was Lorenzo Fluxà's grandfather, who in 1975 founded Camper, the footwear company in which tradition and innovation have always been and are united. Although Camper products continue to be designed and developed in Inca (Mallorca), Camper's first shoe store opened in Barcelona in 1981. Eleven years later stores were opened in Paris and Milan, and in 1999 in New York. Currently, led by the fourth generation of the Fluxà family, they have more than 400 of their own stores in more than 40 countries, and their team of designers and technicians creates approximately 500 models per season.

Camper shoes

Comfort is one of the main characteristics of Camper shoes. From the beginning, Camper's approach has been to blur the boundaries, creating unisex footwear and approaching the concepts of sports and formal footwear. Since they launched their first shoe (the Camaleon, inspired by the shoes of local farmers and which received the first accreditation of the EEC -today EU- of ecological footwear), a small number of lines (Camper icons) has gained importance and popularity. These lines have been redesigned hundreds of times: TWINS challenges the idea that shoes must be identical (the success of the concept led to collaborations with artists such as Joan Miró); Pelotas, one of Camper's most influential icons, features 87 balls on the outsole, creating a unique cushioning system; Wabi, a concept that comes from "wabiru", a Japanese term that means "to apologize", and that was originally an ecological shoe inspired by the culture of minimalism; and Peu, who maintains the spirit of modest shoes for use in the city, while respecting the environment.

Beyond footwear

Camper launched in 2005 Casa Camper, a new concept of hotels in Barcelona (which later arrived in Berlin). And, next to the hotel in Barcelona, they opened the Dos Palillos restaurant, which got a Michelin star.

Awards

  • In 1998 Camper was awarded the National Design Award, awarded by the Ministry of Industry and the BCD Foundation (Barcelona Design Center). This award is the most important that can be awarded to companies and professionals for their contribution to the world of design.
  • In 2018 Camper received the National Honorary Award for the Great Fashion Company. The award was presented by Her Majesty Queen Letizia in her V edition of the National Awards of the Fashion Industry in Spain.
