The Funiculars of Barcelona

Within the transport classified as peculiar and antique we find the funiculars. In Barcelona, we present here three of them:

The funicular of Vallvidrera

It dates from 1906 and was opened to connect and communicate the Sarria quarter with the village of Vallvidrera, now belonging to Barcelona. Over the years it has been modernized thanks to the renovation of 1998, with a new automatic system allowing to make about 10 round trips a day. In addition it will leave you at the foot of the Collserola Park.

Ciutat Vella (part 2): The Gothic Quarter

Coming to Barcelona Barcelona it is not possible to avoid the Ciutat Vella (old part). It is the center, the historic district, there where cultures mix, and that includes also the famous Gothic Quarter, with streets and buildings from different eras. This quarter hosts monuments and areas of vital importance, and consists of different neighborhoods: el call (or Jewish quarter), Sant Just i Pastor, Santa María del Pi, la Catedral, Santa Ana, La Mercè and Palau.
