The terms "Middle Ages" and "medieval" refer to the period of European history between 400 and 1500 AD. A millennium of great social imbalances if we compare the ostentatious life of the upper classes with the misery of the rest of the population. The term "medieval" is used to describe something that is barbaric or outdated. However, during the Middle Ages there were great economic, political, artistic and cultural changes that have survived to the present day: castles, cathedrals, works of art, crafts and even words and toponyms. This exhibition of CaixaForum proposes a new reading of this period of history, structured in five sections: the formation of Europe, royal power, life in court, the Church, city life and legacy. It is about opening a window to the Middle Ages from the treasures and material culture of both the ruling class and other social groups.
