From September 17 to 20, 2026, Barcelona Gallery Weekend will once again transform the galleries of the city and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat into a hub for discovering contemporary and modern art. The 12th edition brings together 25 galleries and more than 50 national and international artists, featuring new exhibitions, guided tours, talks, performances, and activities designed to make art accessible—whether you’re a regular gallery-goer or visiting for the first time.
Every September, Barcelona Gallery Weekend (BGW) marks the start of the city’s art season. Over the course of four days, participating galleries present their new exhibitions and organize a special program that allows visitors to explore the works and, in many cases, speak directly with artists, gallery owners, and other professionals in the field.
The 2026 edition will take place from Thursday, September 17, through Sunday, September 20, at 25 galleries in Barcelona and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. Together, visitors will be able to discover the work of more than 50 national and international artists, with contemporary and modern art on display throughout different areas of the city.
Exhibitions and Flash Projects
At the heart of Barcelona Gallery Weekend are the exhibitions curated by the galleries. Alongside the exhibitions in the general program, 2026 will also feature 13 Flash exhibitions—projects designed to be viewed exclusively during the four days of Gallery Weekend.
This makes the weekend particularly appealing for those who want to explore many different exhibitions in just a few days: you can select the exhibitions that interest you most in advance and plan your own route through galleries located close to one another.
Guided Tours, Talks, and Performances
In addition to freely visiting the exhibitions, BGW organizes a wide-ranging program of guided tours led by artists and gallery owners, talks, presentations, performances, and meetups. Many of these activities offer a deeper understanding of the context behind the works and provide a firsthand look at how their creators work.
The general opening of the exhibitions will take place on Thursday, September 17, starting at 6:00 p.m., although some galleries are scheduling specific tours and activities before and after that time. The schedule continues throughout the weekend, so it’s a good idea to check the program before planning your visit.
ARCO GalleryWalks: Gallery Tours
If you’d prefer to explore Barcelona Gallery Weekend by following an organized tour, one of the most interesting options is the ARCO GalleryWalks. These are guided tours of various galleries led by professionals from the local art scene.
In 2026, 15 tours are scheduled for September 20 and 26. These activities are free, but require advance registration and have limited capacity. Registration opens on September 2, and the tours are conducted in Catalan and Spanish.
Barcelona Gallery Weekend for Families
The event also features the BGW Family program, designed to introduce contemporary art to families with children through questions, games, and other interactive activities centered around the exhibitions.
This year’s family tours will take place on September 20 and 26 at Sala Parés, Escat Gallery, and ethall. The recommended age is 6 and up, and participation is free with prior registration.
How to Plan Your Visit
The galleries are spread across different neighborhoods in Barcelona and also in L’Hospitalet, so it’s best to check the map beforehand and group your visits by area. If you’re short on time, choose two or three areas and combine the exhibitions with a guided tour or an activity from the program.
Keep in mind that hours may vary by gallery and that some activities require registration. It’s also a good idea to book guided tours and family-friendly activities in advance, as space is limited.
