Ciutat Flamenco is a festival that owes its existence to the relationship between Barcelona and flamenco. Expressed clearly: the evolution of this musical genre would not have been the same without Barcelona. In this city, unique historical events have taken place that have affected the history of flamenco. The best artists have performed in Barcelona and great references of cante, toque and baile have been born. In addition, throughout the year, Barcelona offers a large number of shows of this musical genre. In fact, few cities in the world program flamenco as much as the city of Barcelona.
Since it began its journey in 1993 under the name of Flamenco Ciutat Vella, Ciutat Flamenco has managed to establish itself as an unavoidable event for lovers of the genre, both for those who are looking for the consecrated artist in its program and for those who need to discover the new talents that are starting to trend.
Within the framework of the festival, the Flamencology and Flamenco Pedagogy Congress is held, a singing contest (new for the 2022 edition) and various masterclasses are given.
Ciutat Flamenco is organized by Taller de Músics.
Congress of flamencology and flamenco pedagogy
Flamenco is not only played, sung and danced, but also researched, written and taught. This idea is what the Ciutat Flamenco International Congress on Flamencology and Flamenco Pedagogy intends to reflect. In this year's edition, the congress will have the collaboration of the Complutense University of Madrid and the Higher School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC) and will host four round tables that will deal with topics related to flamenco research or pedagogy and musical transcription of the Flemish. Admission is free, but registration is required. The Congress will close this year with a concert by the band Oleándole.
Notes about Taller de Músics
Taller de Músics is an institution of national and international reference in the world of teaching popular music. They offer students a creative, dynamic and innovative environment that allows them to learn and develop a musical career oriented to any style and adjusting to any level. They pursue two main objectives: to offer a solid and complete formation, and to adapt the educational lines to the reality of the moment to impart a training that facilitates the insertion of their students in the labor market. But Taller de Músics is much more, since it develops numerous activities oriented to the promotion and diffusion of music. In this line of action is where we can find initiatives such as Ciutat Flamenco.
