The Alimentaria was first held in 1976 in order to exhibit to the domestic market the providers companies in the food sector. This fair takes place every two years and has presented over the years numerous discoveries and innovations in everything related to raw materials, ingredients, products, processes, packaging and conservation, and has become an international benchmark in food, drinks and gastronomy.

Alimentaria is a fair made up of 10 sections:
- Interlact: dairy products and derivatives.
- Expoconser: preserves.
- Snacks, Biscuits & Confectionary: candy industry and impulse channel.
- Intercarn: meat products.
- Mediterranean Foods: foods from the Mediterranean Diet, fresh products, olive oils and vegetable oils.
- Restaurama: Food Service.
- Grocery Foods: large food consumption companies.
- International Pavilions: section that brings together international representation.
- Lands of Spain: dedicated to the production of the various CC. Spanish AA.
- Alimentaria Trends: a new space for this year's edition, which will include current productive subsectors such as delicatessen foods (Fine Foods), organically produced foods (Organic Foods), allergen-free foods (Free From), Halal foods (Halal Foods) and the functional ones (Functional Foods).
Alimentaria 2022
Together with Hostelco, the leading trade fair for the food industry and its value chain, Alimentaria will occupy 7 pavilions in the Gran Vía de Fira de Barcelona, and will have an exhibition area of 85,000 m2, including spaces for congresses and other activities complementary to the commercial offer. Between Alimentaria and Hostelco, approximately 3,000 companies will be present: 400 come from 52 countries and the rest are Spanish companies.
J. Antonio Valls, general director of Alimentaria Exhibitions, comments that the 2022 edition "will contribute to promoting the development of a strategic sector for the Spanish economy such as the food and beverage industry, as well as continuing to promote the positioning of food and Spanish beverages in international markets, connecting businesses and promoting face-to-face networking with key buyers in the market”. For this reason, Alimentaria will invite 1,400 key buyers, importers and distributors from Europe, Latin America and North America with the idea of holding more than 12,000 business meetings with the participating exhibiting companies.
The Alimentaria Hub will become the forum for trends and the future of food, in which more than 200 experts have confirmed their participation to discuss topics such as innovation; digitization; sustainability; new habits in retail; nutrition, health and other booming segments of the sector, such as alternative protein or halal products.
Important: Admission to the fair is exclusively for professionals in the food sector, beverages and related services.
