Barcelona with children

CosmoCaixa Barcelona is a museum with 50.000 m² dedicated to Science. It has permanent exhibition spaces and organizes temporary exhibitions, events, conferences and courses. It is aimed at all ages although some sections are aimed specifically at children. It is an exciting visit, not only visually oriented, but you can also touch to experiment some of the concepts and the scientific laws.

The permanent spaces are

Geological Wall: 90 tons of rock to show the geological processes that created the earth

Flooded Forest: an exact reproduction of a flooded Brazilian Amazon forest in Barcelona, unique in Europe.

The Hall of Univers: the origin of the universe. The organization of matter from elementary particles of the Big Bang to the creation of complex organisms. In the Hall of Universe there is Lab Math, a space dedicated to mathematics with games, puzzles and all kinds of challenges.

Two Looks at Antarctica: the scientific look of Dra. Castellví, allows us to know the laboratory of the first Spanish Antarctic Base Juan Carlos I; and the artistic gaze of the photojournalist Sebastião Salgado, who through a selection of photographs from his exhibition “Genesis” shows us the natural beauty of Antarctica.

Planetarium: the classic planetarium (digital and one of the most advanced in the world) where you can see the sky of Barcelona as you would see it without any type of contamination; and a program that changes periodically with the best immersive projections of astronomical and scientific dissemination.

Science Square: freely accessible, it is the outer space of CosmoCaixa with interactive machines to scientifically understand nature. In the Science Square there is also the permanent space Meteorological Station to learn to predict the weather; the Smartflowers photovoltaic system, which produces up to 6,000 kWh per year of renewable energy for self-consumption; an insect hotel; and a hydroponic garden that produces much of what the inhabitants of the Flooded Forest consume.

And a finally note, the historic museum building was built in 1904 and is the work of modernist architect Josep Domènech i Estapà.
