Casa Amatller is a modernist building located on the Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona next to Casa Batlló and Casa Lleó Morera. This unique work was built between 1898 and 1900 following the project by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Casa Amatller, Casa Batlló and Casa Lleó Morera form what is known as the block of discord for having buildings of different architectural styles.
Casa Amatller was commissioned by the chocolate entrepreneur Antoni Amatller to Josep Puig i Cadafalch, who was inspired by the façade in the Flemish houses, but adorned it with numerous polychrome tiles that break that Nordic style. The Romanesque and Gothic styles, reinterpreted by Puig i Cadafalch, are also present in this building full of symbols, like one typically Catalan that can be seen in the lower and left part of the facade, between the two doors: Sant Jordi fighting with the dragon. This work by Puig i Cadafalch was declared a historical-artistic monument in January 1976.
