The Sala Montjuïc open-air cinema is one of the benchmarks in Barcelona's summer cultural programme. One of the keys to the proposal is the combination of cinema in the original version on the big screen with films and short films, live music and the possibility of dining outdoors in an environment such as the Montjuïc Castle moat. There will be 16 nights of music and movies to enjoy with friends or family; a summer plan for both residents of Barcelona and visitors, with films of all genres : the most recent releases, the most awarded titles, as well as classics, musicals, comedies, animated films and documentaries on the giant screen and in original version subtitled in Spanish .
The 2022 edition of Sala Montjuïc
In this edition, Sala Montjuïc celebrates its 20th anniversary . In its choice of recent films, the organization has chosen Kenneth Branagh 's childhood memory of Belfast ; Steven Spielberg 's fantastic West Side Story ; the refreshing Palm Springs by Max Barbakov ; Paul Thomas Anderson 's latest feature, Licorice Pizza: and Asghar Farhadi 's haunting A Hero , which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. One of the outstanding films this year will be Alcarràs , by Clara Simón , which won the Golden Bear at the last edition of the Berlinale.
To celebrate these 20 years of open-air cinema, this edition includes a "Best Of" with the most voted films in a survey by viewers . The result is such great contemporary classics as Pulp Fiction, Grease, Call Me By Your Name, Interstellar, Lost in Translation, The Big Lebowski, Relatos Salvajes.s and North by Northwest. These eight titles can be enjoyed again this summer, in addition to the usual surprise film, one of the great moments of Sala Montjuïc. The closing film is kept secret until the last moment, although some clues are offered through social networks as a game with users.
As for live music before the screenings, very varied proposals have been scheduled for this 20th edition. The opening night, accompanying the screening of Pulp Fiction, will be performed by the soul trio The Sey Sisters, three Catalan sisters with Ghanaian roots who will bring us the most pop African sounds. Other outstanding groups are Los Stompers, an Irish folk music band that pays tribute to the mythical The Dubliners; Los Carosones , a tribute group to Renato Carosone that will bring the spirit of la dolce vita; Kolmena, a formation of twelve percussionists of various nationalities, or Yacine Belahcene, a Catalan musician of Algerian origins with a long career.
