The changes in our world are moving at great speed and in all directions. We need a pause to reflect together. The Biennial of Thought takes over the public space and transforms Barcelona into an agora for civic debate. For six days there will be debates on topics such as the health of democracy, the survival of colonialism or authoritarianism.
The 2022 edition of the Biennial
In this year's edition there will be almost 100 activities (67 of the Biennial of Thought and 29 of the +Biennial) and 200 people will participate, including Yuval Noha Harari, Svetlana Aleksievich, Chantal Mouffe, Lucrecia Martel, Carles Boix, Adam Przeworski, Alice Munyua, Renata Avila, Nnenna Nwakanma, Katharina Pistor, Carme Pinós, Uriel Fogué, Carolyn Steel and Geogre Monbiot. The biennial's program will take place in 9 venues, but some activities will be itinerant, such as the peripatetic walks. In addition, several municipal and cultural facilities will organize activities in their facilities related to the program, under the name +Biennal.
As a novelty of this edition, the cities of Palma and Valencia, which have created a strategic alliance with Barcelona in favor of thought and culture, are joining the Biennial of Thought. Each city will have its own program, but there will be interrelationships, such as the recital of the legacies of Joan Fuster, Blai Bonet and Gabriel Ferrater, to be held simultaneously in Barcelona, Palma and Valencia.
The themes
The debates and conferences have been planned around three main axes: the socio-political system, technological change and the physical configuration of cities, which include sub-themes such as post-colonialism, digital rights, climate change, de-globalization, cryptocurrencies, democratic health or artificial intelligence. In addition, there will be a specific branch to deal with the cultural reality of the territories with a Catalan linguistic scope.
