The changes in our world are moving at great speed and in all directions. We need a pause to reflect together. The Biennial of Thought takes over the public space and transforms Barcelona into an agora for civic debate. For six days there will be debates on topics such as the health of democracy, the survival of colonialism or authoritarianism.

The 2024 edition of the Biennial

Over the last two centuries, we have lived through a period of economic and demographic growth, accompanied by the global exploitation of resources and the consolidation of a liberal social order based on progress and democracy. Although this model seemed immutable, today it reveals itself to be fragile and unsustainable, exposing the forms of domination and exploitation that maintained it. We now understand that the world as we knew it cannot continue.

The Biennial of Thought 2024 seeks to reflect on the ideas, practices and promises that should guide the future at this time of great global transformations. To this end, the event will include debates on memory, sustainability and humanism.

The most outstanding participants

The Barcelona Biennial of Thought 2024 will include the participation of prominent figures such as writer and Nobel Prize winner Herta Müller, playwright Wajdi Mouawad, British author Zadie Smith and economist and anthropologist Jason Hickel. Also participating will be Brazilian journalist Eliane Brum, Nigerian feminist academic Oyèrónké Oyèwùmi, artist Perejaume and philosopher Begoña Román.
