The Castell dels Tres Dragons (Castle of the Three Dragons), created by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, was thought and built between 1887 and 1888 to house a café-restaurant during the 1988 Universal Exposition in Barcelona. Later it was used as a modernist design workshop, social welfare dining room (1942 - 1945), and from 1945 to 2010 it was the Museum of Zoology of Barcelona.

It currently houses the documentation collection of the Museum of Natural Sciences and the Laboratori de Natura (Nature Laboratory), a research space with laboratories also dedicated to the conservation of the Museum's collections.

An innovative structure

The Castell dels Tres Dragons, built with exposed brick and laminated iron, is a castle-shaped building with battlements. It has four towers and perimeter passageways. Its innovative structure is a few years ahead of Hendrik Petrus Berlage's similar proposal in his project for the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.

You can not visit the interior. It's in the Ciutadella Park so do not forget to look for it if you go to the park.
