Maria Lassnig was born in Kappel am Krappfeld in the Austrian region of Carinthia, in 1919. His artistic career began in the late 1940s and during World War II she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (where she taught in from the 1980s), she lived in Paris in the 1950s and 1960s, and in New York in the 1970s, and continued to work until her death. In those 70 years she did not stop creating art, exploring her own body in a way sensitive and vulnerable, but always with an awareness of her own body.

The exhibition at the Fundació Antoni Tàpies, is centered in the creations of Lassnig on self-portraits and body exploration and features paintings, writings, drawings and prints from 1942 until her last years.
