Apichatpong "Joe" Weerasethakul (Bangkok, 1971) is the most prominent director of the new Thai cinema. He has made numerous short films and six feature films, including "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" (2010), which won the Palme d'Or prize at Cannes. His films are characterized by falling back to unconventional narrative structures (such as placing titels/ credits at the middle of the film) and an extremely slow pace that tests the patience of the viewer. The magazine "Cahiers du cinema" did not hesitate to call "Tropical malady", one of the films of these mini-cycle, as one of the three best works of the decade with "Elephant" (Gus Van Sant, 2003) and "Mulholland Drive "(David Lynch, 2001).
